President
Gary Yelvington was born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, and graduated from Mainland High School. He attended the University of Alabama on a football scholarship playing for the great Paul “Bear” Bryant. During his college football career, Alabama won 32 out of 33 regular season games and played in the Cotton, Sugar, and Orange Bowls. Alabama also won the National Championships in 1973 while Gary was on the team. He graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration.
After graduating, Gary joined the family business, which was started by his father Conrad in the late 1940’s. It was Gary’s vision to bring rock in by rail to supply local businesses. The company expanded under his vision from unloading a few railcars a week to the 31 distribution terminals that are currently operating. Conrad Yelvington Distributors has shipped over 130+ MM tons by rail since opening their first terminal in 1983 with CSX Transporation as the primary rail carrier. The company currently manages 2200 owned or leased private railcars to help move over 5 million tons annually through its various distribution terminals. CYD has proven that being an independent terminal operator offers rail-served suppliers more opportunity to handle multiple and competitive products through any one terminal.
Gary spends his time away from the office enjoying deep-sea fishing, flying, and looking for new growth opportunities for the business. His wife Suzi Yelvington also works for the company in their Human Resources Department and has been a huge part of the company’s success. Gary has a daughter, Jourdan Yelvington who owns and operates her own business.
“Even after all these years as CYD President, I am humbled and amazed by the dedication and loyalty our employees have for this company, provide to our customers and show with each other. In my humble opinion, Conrad Yelvington Distributors is “a culture unto itself.”
